Matthew 5:43-44

A keen sense of humor helps us to overlook the unbecoming,
unpleasent and unexpected and it helps to outlast the
unbearable.

Pastor Greg's devotions

The Bottom Line
And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
— 1 Corinthians 2:1–2

C. H. Spurgeon defined the gospel this way: Jesus died for me. That is our essential message. It is Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

I think we overcomplicate this thing we call evangelism way too much. I am not suggesting that we go out and start telling others about Christ without any understanding of what the Bible teaches. There is a place for apologetics, the defense of the faith. There is a place for building a bridge with those we are speaking to, and there is a place for other evangelism techniques that we might employ. But the bottom line we are to reach, the primary message we are to proclaim, is the message of Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

And it is my belief that as you proclaim this message, God can use you to win others to Christ. The apostle Paul wrote, "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18), and "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek" (Romans 1:16).

I have been proclaiming the gospel message for 35 years now, and I am still amazed at its power. I have heard the stories of people whom you would never expect to believe in Jesus. I have been astonished at the way God reached them and transformed them. It is the power of the gospel.

There is power in the simple story of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Don't complicate it. Don't add to it. Don't take away from it. Don't apologize for it. Just proclaim it, and watch what God will do.

Mind that is set on flesh~

For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8: 7-8

“The mind being set on the flesh” is a mind of an unbeliever. If one does not believe in the things of God, he is hostile or rejects the things of God and God’s laws.

Since Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, there has been sin and strife in the world. God created a perfect world for Adam and Eve. If they had obeyed Him and controlled their sinful lusts, the world would be a perfect place. But they listened to Satan and became as we are because they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; and we became subject to sin and death.

But God, since He loved us so much provided a way for us to become perfect; thus Jesus became our sacrifice; our way of avoiding hell. God the Father, laid all the sins of the world on the strong, able shoulders of our Lord. Psalms 53:5 He took our sins upon Himself and bore our iniquities; He suffered on a cruel cross; suffered as no man has ever suffered and then He died to save our souls from an eternity in hell.

Thank you Lord God for providing a way of escape for us and giving us a living sacrifice, Jesus Your only Son to die for us as our propitiation. Thank You for saving us from an eternity of the fire that burns forever and ever.

We should never lie down to sleep at night without
being able to say we have made at lease one human
being a little wiser or happier or a little better this day.

Audience Of One ~ lyrics

AUDIENCE OF ONE
by: Big Daddy Weave

I come on my knees
To lay down before you
Bringing all that I am
Longing only to know you
Seeking your face
And not only your hand
I find you embracing me
Just as I am
And I lift these songs
To you and you alone
As I sing to you
In my praises make your home
Chorus:
To my audience of one
You are Father, and you are Son
As your spirit flows free,
Let it find within me
A heart that beats to praise you.
And now just to know you more
Has become my great reward
To see your kingdom come
And your will be done
I only desire to be yours,
Lord
So what could I bring
To honor your majesty
What song could I sing
That would move the heart of royalty
And all that I have
Is the life that you’ve given me
So Lord let me live for you
My song with humility
And Lord as the love song
Of my life is played
I have one desire
To bring glory to your name
CHORUS
And we lift these songs
To you and you alone
As we sing to you
In our praises make your home
CHORUS
